June's move

The L-Turn

Pull the ball back, then push it sideways with the inside of your foot, tracing an 'L' to escape pressure.

When to use it

When a defender is right on your back and you need to protect the ball and find a new angle.

Step by step

  1. Put your sole on top of the ball and pull it back.
  2. As it rolls back, turn and push it sideways with the inside of the same foot.
  3. Shield the ball with your body throughout.
  4. Look up and play your next pass or dribble.

Common mistakes

  • Not shielding with your body
  • Two slow touches
  • Head down

Practice challenge

More moves to master

The Pullback

A simple, reliable way to change direction and protect the ball by dragging it back with your sole.

Try it: Do 10 clean pullbacks with each foot, then add a 3-step sprint after each one.

The Scissors (Step-Over)

A fake where you step over the ball to make the defender think you're going one way before exploding the other.

Try it: Scissor + accelerate past a marker 10 times each foot. Sell the fake with your whole body.

The Cruyff Turn

A disguised turn where you fake a pass or shot, then drag the ball behind your standing leg to go the other way.

Try it: 10 Cruyff turns each foot, each followed by a forward pass against a wall.

The Body Feint

Using a drop of your shoulder and shift of your hips to make a defender lean one way while you go the other.

Try it: Body feint past a marker 15 times, alternating directions. Make the fake big.

Inside-Outside Cut

A quick double touch — inside of the foot then outside — to wrong-foot a defender and change your angle.

Try it: 20 inside-outside combos on the move, each foot. Keep both touches within one stride.

The Step-Over (Single)

One clean step over the top of the ball to freeze the defender, then attack with the outside of the other foot.

Try it: Step-over and burst past a marker 12 times each foot at game speed.

The Matthews Move

A classic feint: push the ball slightly inside with the inside of your foot, then quickly knock it the other way with the outside of the same foot.

Try it: 15 Matthews moves each foot, accelerating hard after the second touch.
